Federal Court Hears Appeal of Injunction on the President’s Immigration Executive Action

On Friday April 17, a three judge panel of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Louisiana heard oral arguments of lawyers representing both the Justice Department and the representatives of the 26 states who filed a law suit to halt the President’s executive action on immigration.

Parts of the President’s executive action on immigration that would provide protection from deportation for up to 5 million immigrants have been in limbo since a Federal Judge issued an injunction to temporarily halt the programs in February. The Justice Department has appealed the injunction and is seeking a stay on the order. The Appeals Court did not issue a decision today and will take the matter under advisement.
